I finally recognized myself when I discovered a “space” called Art.
MY LIFE IN ART: a short bio.
PAINTING IS A MEANS OF KNOWLEDGE.
I was born with paints and brushes in my hands…
As soon as I could, I started drawing and painting, naturally.
Then I decided to dedicate myself to my passion for Art and to further my artistic education by attending workshops of well-known “Maestri” studying the methods and tools of the Fine Arts.
During my life I have attended classes focusing on oil and watercolour painting, engraving and acquaforte, as well as clay sculpure.
Also classes focusing on Anatomy,
the human figure and portrait, as well as “scuola del nudo”.
I gained a diploma in “Tecniche Pittoriche” at the “Accademia delle Arti Ornamentali San Giacomo” in Rome, Italy.
Furthermore, in New York, I attended classes for “Life drawing and painting” at the “Academy of Art” and at the prestigious “Art Students League of New York”.
THE HUMAN FIGURE: POETRY IN THE MATERIAL
I am particularly attracted by the human body – reference of harmony –
the proportional masses of the figure and its expressive form.
Studying anatomy has become my passion and I am aware of the great pleasure
when painting the forms, the colours and the movements of body shapes.

Giovanni Cara: the essence of the human being
“In drawing the human figure Giovanni Cara transcends the normal rules of rigid academic discipline and conventional depiction. His intention is to create an ethereal fleeting image evoking a strong sense of pathos.
He creates surfaces, skin and flesh all with a disarming defencelessness and limpidity. The figures are alive with an erotic charge; hands, eyes, tendons and blood all fashioned of light and colour to create the appearance of a time-worn body, an unapologetic depiction of a sweet wound exuding a primordial innocence.
The human figure vibrates in its transitory nature, here for a moment only, but in that instant revealing an eternity of suffering, through the conscious departure from conventional symmetry and proportion.
Everything is fluid but candidly recreated in a desecrating image, redolent of shattered desires. The figure possesses an essential and irresistible sexuality which reflects back without mercy the viewer’s own carnal existence.”
